Cochise Stronghold, on the east side of the Dragoon Mountains of Arizona, is a fabled area which was the hideout of the Chiricahua Apaches when pursued by the U.S. Cavalry
shortly before and after the Civil War.
Cochise and his followers successfully evaded the cavalry for nearly 12 years. The legendary chief
Cochise is buried somewhere in this natural granite fortress, though the location of his grave is unknown.
The rugged beauty and magnitude of this place cannot really be shown
in photos small enough to fit on your screen!
But being there makes it fully understandable why Cochise was able to
hide and evade capture for so long. My
humble words cannot describe the scenery either, so just enjoy the pictures and
try to envision the spot yourself.
